From Page to Stage: Costume Design in Theatre with Mara Gottler
This presentation will outline the typical stages of costume design, specifically for Bard on the Beach Theatre Festival, from preliminary design meeting with directors, to research from primary and secondary sources, to collaging concept ideas and finally to the creation of sketches. At this point, the purely artistic path becomes more practical, involving the construction of costume pieces by theatre crews and followed by actor fittings pf mock ups. The final stage involves testing costumes under technical challenges prior to a show's opening - whether under lights or with videos, testing the pacing for Fast Changes and checking for durability.
Come a see different costumes on display as examples of manipulated fabrics, with related renderings.
Questions are always welcome either during or after the presentation.
